What is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy

Lymph Drainage Therapy is a gentle technique that uses light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the body’s lymphatic system to activate the body's fluid circulation, promote the functioning of the immune system, and relax the nervous system. The lymphatic system helps rid the body of toxins and waste through the movement of lymph, a fluid that carries infection-fighting white blood cells throughout the body. The practitioner (Level 1) can use their hands to detect and work with the body’s specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow, and with further training (Levels 2 & 3), can map abnormal lymph flow and determine alternative pathways for draining stagnant fluid from anywhere in the body.

Lymph Drainage Therapy can benefit people with the following conditions:

Fibromyalgia

Rheumatoid arthritis

Chronic venous insufficiency

Edema

Healing post-surgery or injury (must be 6 weeks pre/post-surgery)

Sluggish immune system

Skin irritations

Current allergic reaction

Current infection (of any type, will spread it) or on antibiotics

New tattoo work (in last 6 weeks) S

erious circulatory problems (aneurysm, thrombosis, phlebitis, venous obstruction, history of blood clots, etc)

Major cardiac issues (acute angina, coronary thrombosis, congestive heart failure, cardiac edema, etc)

Hemorrhage (any active bleeding, including internal bleeding)

Acute enuresis (absence of urination) or kidney failure

Unexplained abdominal pain (should consult MD)

Upcoming/post surgery (no LDT 6 weeks before or after, can cause anesthesia issues)

Active cancer NOT under medical control (under medical control needs MD’s note on file clearing them for lymph drainage)

Diagnosed or at risk for developing lymphedema (LDT Level 3) ANY radiation treatment (LDT Level 3) ANY lymph nodes removed (LDT Level 3)
